Journalist Jonny McFarlane has suggested that Rangers could turn to Gerardo Seoane should they have second thoughts over Michael Beale’s appointment.

Ross Wilson and the Ibrox hierarchy are on the lookout for a successor to Giovanni van Bronckhorst having removed the Dutch coach from his position on Monday.

Former Gers assistant and current QPR coach Beale has been identified as the number one candidate for the role.

His current employers are expecting their 42-year-old head coach to leave for the Glasgow giants but Football Insider have reported that the Gers board are becoming increasingly concerned with the backlash from fans over the thought of appointing the inexperienced manager.

Speaking on the Rangers Review YouTube channel McFarlane has now offered an alternative.

He said:(3:39) “The other candidate that’s been mooted and I don’t know if this is someone that is actually on the Rangers board’s list but Gerardo Seoane for me is one that the club should be looking at.

“Now there might be a question about whether or not he would even be interested in coming to Scotland. There might not be the finances there to secure him. There might not be finances in terms of the kind of budget that he’d be looking for but you’re talking about a guy who’s extremely hot property.”

TIF Thoughts on Seaone and Rangers…

Do you want Michael Beale as manager?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The Swiss coach is currently out of a job after being sacked by Bayer Leverkusen back in October.

However, that came after he was headhunted by the German giants after winning three straight league titles in his home country with Young Boys.

He can feel aggrieved by his sacking too having led Leverkusen to their highest points total (64) in the Bundesliga since the 2012/2013 campaign in his only full season as manager.

At 44 he is also a youthful head coach but unlike Beale has experience as the main man in Europe taking charge of 40 games in total on the continent and he could be a viable option for the Gers.
