Former SPFL striker Tam McManus believes that Rangers could look to add more firepower this winter and has namechecked Antoine Semenyo.
Reports have suggested that the Gers are willing to spend around £5m in order to bring the 22-year-old to Ibrox.
The Bristol City striker is out of contract in the summer and the same source suggests that his current employers are already making plans for life without the London-born Ghanaian.
With the uncertainty surrounding Alfredo Morelos’ future in Glasgow, McManus has suggested that Semenyo could be bought in January if the Colombian is shown the door.
He told Ibrox News: “Antonio Colak’s been great, he’s been one of the brightest sparks for Rangers this season with his goals and his performances.
“But when you’re looking to sign strikers at Rangers or Celtic, you need to look at strikers who are proven.
“They need a proven goalscoring record and this guy’s record is mixed. I don’t think he’s an out-and-out goalscorer based on his numbers.
“Rangers will definitely look to strengthen that department.
“They could decide to cash in on Alfredo Morelos in January if someone bids as he’s not signing a new deal.
“The guy from Bristol City is one they could probably sign.”
TIF Thoughts on McManus’ comments…
Will Rangers be active in January?Yes!No! |
Summer signing Antonio Colak has scored 14 times already this season although they did start to dry up before the first half of the campaign drew to a close.
Semenyo, meanwhile, has been hailed as ‘very exciting’.
A three-cap star for Ghana, the Robins’ frontman will be at the World Cup with the Black Stars having been labelled a ‘nightmare to play against’ by his Ashton Gate boss Nigel Pearson.
However, the Light Blues’ plans to land the Championship hotshot could be affected by their old firm rivals Celtic who have also shown an interest in the past.
