Former SPFL striker Tam McManus has encouraged Rangers to wash their hands of Alfredo Morelos.

The striker is out of contract at the end of the season and has found himself on the fringes of the first team at Ibrox this term.

He started his for the first time in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday as the Gers struggled to a 1-1 draw with St Mirren.

The Light Blues are now nine points behind their city rivals Celtic heading into the World Cup break and while the Hoops are currently training out in Australia, Giovanni van Bronckhorst has given his players some time off.

Morelos certainly seems to be making the most of it as he was pictured in his native Colombia enjoying a cocktail which hasn’t impressed McManus.

Appearing on PLZ Soccer’s The Football Show, he spoke about the Rangers squad needing a major overhaul in terms of personnel.

The former Hibs marksman said: “I don’t think they’re going to be able to do it all in one window, but I think in January, for me, Morelos – I’d get rid of him.

“I’ve seen a picture today, I know he’s off, but he’s sitting having a drink abroad, and that, for me, is the difference between Celtic away training hard and Rangers giving their players time off and they’re nine points behind.

“I don’t understand that, and it’s a bit like Dubai when Neil Lennon took the players away, that picture; that Morelos picture.

“I know a lot of Rangers fans wouldn’t have liked that today to see that picture.”

TIF Thoughts on Morelos and Rangers…

Should Rangers sell Morelos in January?

Something certainly hasn’t seemed right with the 26-year-old this season with it previously suggested by journalist Stephen McGowan that the centre-forward appears ‘overweight’.

It is telling in his performance too with only three goals in 657 minutes of action.

Antonio Colak has become the first-choice striker at Ibrox with only a handful of teammates performing at a lower level than Morelos who is averaging just a 6.36 match rating.

Rangers’ dealing with the Colombian’s contract situation has been poor and allowing it to run into the final six months has left them backed into a corner.

He is not producing and needs to be moved on for whatever they can get as he doesn’t seem to fancy signing an extension and he wouldn’t exactly deserve one either.
