Joshua Barrie believes that Michael Beale having to freshen things up within the Rangers squad is his biggest issue.

A lot has been made about Beale and his severe lack of first-team management experience amid his appointment as the new Rangers manager, but Barrie believes that isn’t the biggest problem facing the new manager at Ibrox.

Barrie believes Beale will have to refrain from reverting back to what he and former manager Steven Gerrard did during their previous tenure at Ibrox, and instead become his own man by bringing his own tactics to the job.

While speaking on The Rangers Review, Barrie admitted that Beale needing to freshen things up within the club – particularly on the pitch – is the biggest problem facing the latest Gers boss.

Speaking prior to his appointment being announced, he said: “I think the issue for Beale will be, can he refresh what happened by the time he and Gerrard left?

“He’s [Beale] spoken a lot in a few press conferences I’ve watched with QPR about the need for variation and to introduce new formations.

Will Michael Beale succeed at Rangers?

“And if you remember back to the end of Gerrard’s era, that was one of the main criticisms. If he can do that, if he doesn’t look too much to the past and just try and reinstate what was kind of working this time last year, then I think he’s got a chance of being a success in the future.”

TIF Thoughts on Beale’s appointment…

It certainly is a risk bringing back Beale, who was said to play a huge role in Gerrard’s success at Ibrox, as being a manager and being a coach are two very different things, so it will be interesting to see how he copes with the added pressure.

Who followed James Tavernier to Rangers from Wigan Athletic in the same season?

While Beale will likely arrive with a load of new ideas to get Rangers firing on all cylinders, he must avoid reverting back to what went well from the last time he was at Ibrox when things go wrong, as that is now firmly in the past.

Many will be watching on with a keen eye as to how Beale sets his Rangers side up and how similar they are to Gerrard’s team that was so dominant in the Premiership.
