Journalist Stephen McGowan has insisted on The Press Box podcast that Sean Dyche is unlikely to become Rangers manager due to his potential financial demands in the transfer market at Ibrox.

While talk of a new Rangers boss could be seen as slightly premature given that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is still at the helm, the club currently sit nine points off the top of the league heading into the World Cup break.

And given the shocking run of form Rangers have been on and how disastrous their Champions League campaign was under the Dutchman, it’s only natural for him to now be under pressure.

McGowan has claimed that while Dyche has been spoken about as someone that could land the top job at Ibrox in the near future, he feels that the former Burnley boss, as well as other potential candidates, would demand some serious investment in the market in order to take the job.

He said: “What candidates are out there? Sean Dyche has been mentioned widely; Peter Bosz, the Dutchman, who’s out of work just now – but these are guys who are going to want guarantees of money [to invest].”

TIF Thoughts on Dyche to Rangers…

If Dyche, who has been hailed as ‘phenomenal’, was to be approached by the Rangers board, it would be a major step up in his career, with the 51-year-old having managed Burnley for years, where he had them punching way above their weight at times in the Premier League – even getting them to the Europa League qualifiers in 2018.

It could well be a gamble for the board to approach someone so inexperienced at winning things at the top level, but it certainly worked out when they handed Steven Gerrard the reins as he won them the league title.

Dyche would likely have confidence in himself to succeed, and although he has previously spoken about how the work he did at Burnley has earned him the right to hold out for a Premier League role, being offered the chance to manage Rangers – perhaps in the Champions League – could be the perfect opportunity he’s been waiting for.
