Alan Hutton has suggested that there may have been tension at Ibrox between Giovanni van Bronckhorst and Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara.

The Finland star was subbed off at half-time in the Gers’ clash with St Mirren and Hutton spoke to Football Insider about the potential aftermath.

It’s been a disappointing campaign for Rangers this season. They sit second in the league, however, they’re nine points adrift of their Glasgow rivals.

In addition, they were simply awful in the Champions League. They lost all their group stage matches and only scored two goals – the worst of the lot being a 7-1 hammering at home to Liverpool.

The draw with St Mirren wouldn’t have been much of a confidence booster, and Hutton believes there could be tension between Kamara and Van Bronckhorst amid reports of disagreements behind the scenes.

He stated: “You never know, it could be deeper.

“Obviously, we are not privy to everything that is going on. I think if you are given an opportunity and you are taken off at half-time, there is obviously frustration there.

“Gio did have to change something, bring on someone more attacking, someone that was going to offer more going forward. As a player, you are disappointed and it has maybe boiled over.

“You know what it is like in changing rooms after, there may have been discussions and opinions were obviously voiced. We do not actually know, but there is normally something going on in the background if we are hearing about it.”

TIF Thoughts on Alan Hutton’s comments…

We believe that Kamara is right to be a little frustrated by being subbed off at half-time. Having said that, it’s a part of the game, and managers sometimes need to make changes if they feel they need to.

Van Bronckhorst brought on Scott Arfield to replace Kamara at the weekend, with the Canadian a more versatile option than Kamara, which would’ve given Rangers more attacking options.

So there could well have been discussions after the match between the player and manager, however, we would like to think it’s all water under the bridge at this point.

However, it is of no benefit to the club that reports like this are emerging amid their stuttering form, as it appears the Dutchman is slowly losing control at Ibrox.
