Rangers’ latest financial report shows they are generating more matchday income than ‘pretty much every other senior club in European football’.

That’s according to football financial expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke with Football Insider about the accounts recently posted by the Ibrox giants.

Whilst Rangers may be nine points behind their Old Firm rivals, the financial success of the club will come as some much-needed good news.

Last week, the club shared their annual earnings on Twitter. Highlights include a record turnover of £86.8m and a profit of £5.6m.

Maguire cited the fans’ passion and support as a factor of this, stating: “The standout is the record revenues.

“There was a significant contribution from their run to the Europa League final.

“Out of every £100 of overall revenue Rangers generated, £48 of that came from matchday income. That is higher than pretty much every other senior club in European football. That is testament to the willingness of fans to fill Ibrox.

“The other positive is that commercial revenue is growing. The £4.2million of compensation Rangers extracted in terms of compensation for Steven Gerrard does look like a standout deal.”

TIF Thoughts on Maguire’s comments…

We believe that the Gers fans really spoke with their wallets last season. It is easy to see how the success of the club in Europe was also a driving factor in these figures as Rangers made it all the way to the Europa League final.

The supporters’ willingness to spend and back their team is incredible, especially when you consider the fact we’re not long removed from the pandemic and the cost of living crisis in the UK.

It’s clear no matter the circumstances, Rangers have a very passionate and loyal fanbase. The annual report shows that come rain or shine, the Ibrox is going to filled with Gers fans.
