Rangers: Ally McCoist delievers verdict on van Bronckhorst sacking

|

Ally McCoist have delivered his verdict on the sacking of Giovanni van Bronckhorst by Rangers. He believes it had reached the stage where there was ‘no way back’ for the Dutchman when speaking to TalkSPORT.

van Bronckhorst was sacked by Rangers after a year in charge. He won a Scottish Cup and got the club to a Europa League Final.

However, this season Rangers have endured a very tough campaign. They’re second in the league, but they’re nine points behind rivals Celtic, who top the Scottish Premiership.

Furthermore, they had a disastrous campaign in the Champions League this season. They didn’t win a single match and only scored two goals across six matches.

McCoist had this to say about the Dutchman’s sacking, “You could make a case, you know he’s a penalty away from winning the Europa League, won a Scottish Cup he’s in the semi final of the League Cup this year. It’s the league performances and being so far behind Celtic at this moment in time that without has cost Giovanni’s job. You only assumed elusive job. I think there was a tide you can see the fans turning as well and I think we all know when that happens, which was no way back. But it’s very, very difficult to turn that around again.”

TIF’s view on McCoist’s comments…

We believe that McCoist is spot on with his comments, regarding the sacking of van Bronckhorst. Once you lose the fans it’s hard to get them back on side.

For Rangers to be performing so badly in both the Scottish Premiership and the Champions League, it’s not acceptable.

There’s no doubt that van Bronckhorst had plenty of highlights during his time managing the club. As we previously mentioned the success in the Scottish Cup and Europa League, brought Gers fans some great memories.

However, all things must pass and it was time for him to go. A number of names have been discussed to take the Gers job. The names include, Sean Dyche, Steve Gerrard, Michael Beale and Kjetil Knutsen have been discussed.

Whoever takes on the job, they’ll have a task on their hands.
