Speaking on the YouTube channel, A Celtic State of Mind, presenter John-Paul Mason suspects that Celtic’s Josip Juranovic could well be off in January as the club could well have Alistair Johnston wrapped up.

One report states that the Scottish side will expect bids for the Croatian full-back. How he fares with his national side at the World Cup could well factor into his price.

Also, it seems that Celtic could have his replacement in mind with another World Cup star, Alistair Johnston. According to a report, Ange Postecoglou’s side are weighing up a bid for the Canadian international.

Mason suggests that in fact, a deal for Johnston could already be wrapped up. This is due to the fact the report was published during the clash between Belgium and Canada.

He said: “There’s no smoke without fire. It would make sense I suppose. Whether or not he [Juranovic] has a good World Cup will obviously depend, you know maybe impact what fee we can demand for him.

“But you start to think that, you know, if we if we’ve been linked this guy, Alistair Johnston, that deal was probably already done. And he only kicked the ball last night for Canada.”

TIF’s view on Mason’s comments…

If Celtic are looking to replace Juranovic with the Canadian, they may have been impressed with what they saw of Johnston in a solid display against Belgium on Wednesday night.

The 24-year-old currently plays his football in the MLS for CF Montreal. A move to Celtic would be his first exposure to European football.

As for Juranovic, he would be a useful asset to a lot of clubs. He’s played in a number of competitions including the Champions League and the Europa League. At only 27 years old, he’s got plenty of years in the tank.

However, it’s unlikely that a deal for Johnston is already finalised. The club have already announced the signing Yuki Kobayashi, so perhaps the remainder of Johnston’s World Cup will defy where his future lies.
