Journalist Craig Finn has been left feeling confident about Celtic completing an exciting transfer for Alistair Johnston in the near future.

The Canadian has strongly been linked with a move to the Bhoys of late, with transfer guru Fabrizio Romano recently reporting that the Scottish club have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with Montreal and only final details need to be sorted.

Amid all this talk, the Celtic target was asked about the possible deal in a press conference this week and reportedly said ‘it’s an honour’ to be linked and ‘couldn’t wipe the smile off his face’.

In reaction to this, Finn took to Twitter to happily claim: “Everything pointing to a done deal at the moment.”

TIF thoughts on Alistair Johnston and Celtic…

The 24-year-old is currently out in Qatar with Canada for the 2022 World Cup and played the full 90 minutes for his country as they fell to a 1-0 defeat against Belgium in their opening group game.

Despite being relatively young, Johnston is a regular for his national team and already has 31 senior caps. On top of that, according to Transfermarkt, he was a ‘standout‘ in that recent defeat. They also added, with a market value of €6m (£5.16m), he is the joint most valuable defender in MLS alongside LA Galaxy’s Julian Araujo.

Seeing as he can play at centre-back or on the right flank, his versatility may well make him a more attractive option to potential suitors. Judging from these strong links in the media it really does seem as though Celtic are suitably impressed and will now try and complete this deal soon.
