Expected future Celtic transfer Alistair Johnston has revealed just how close is to joining after admitting he has already spoken to Josip Juranovic.

As per trusted source Fabrizio Romano, the Bhoys are close to signing the MLS defender after reaching a ‘verbal agreement’ with Montreal ahead of a potential January move.

Johnston has already dropped big hints about his transfer publicly, claiming it ‘was an honour’ to be linked with the Scottish Premiership outfit, and he ‘couldn’t wipe the smile off his face’ while doing so.

In a further development on the situation, he has now claimed to have spoken to Celtic right-back Juranovic while the duo were representing their nations at the World Cup.

Indeed, he told the press recently (via The Scotsman): “I had a little chat with Josip after the game and he is a good lad.”

He then added: “He brought the Celtic situation up a little bit to me, but that’s a conversation I can hopefully have with him in a little more detail in the future.”

TIF Thoughts on Alistair Johnston and Celtic…

On the basis of this, Johnston certainly seems to be pretty sure he will be joining Celtic, so it seems supporters can consider this transfer all but completed.

The Canadian met Juranovic as his nation was playing Croatia at the World Cup. Interestingly enough, both men played at right-back during that match – as Johnston and co lost 4-1 – so it will be interesting to see if any rivalry emerges between the two as they fight for a spot in the Hoops’ setup somewhere down the line.

For now, though, the potential new Celtic man was full of praise for his future teammate. Indeed, in the same interview, he said of Juranovic: “He played an unbelievable game for Croatia and he’s quick, isn’t he? He is a solid player and it’s easy to see why Celtic fans love him.”
