Former Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has suggested that Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis could find themselves out of the side.

The duo scored 37 goals between them last season but have come under fire from McAvennie for wasting a hatful of chances this term.

The Hoops crashed out of the Champions League despite creating the joint 12th-most attempts, while only two teams scored fewer than their tally of four.

Kyogo and Giakoumakis were responsible for missing five big chances between them in the competition and McAvennie feels their place could be at risk as a result.

Speaking to Football Insider, he said: “Everyone likes Giakoumakis and Kyogo, but it is a harsh world.

“You cannot miss the kind of chances that we are missing and expect to stay in the team. I really do like them. They do well in Scotland and they have scored in the last couple of games and I thought they were back.

“It could have been so much better this [Champions League] campaign. We did not get as many chances when we played.

“The amount of chances they are getting now is wonderful to watch. As a striker, I would be revelling in it, I would be scoring goals for fun. It is a harsh reality and I think the manager has to address that.”

TIF Thoughts on McAvennie’s comments…

Do Celtic need another striker?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

Kyogo and Giakoumakis have scored ten and eight goals respectively in all competitions this season, but like every striker they do, of course, pass up some opportunities.

While McAvennie may be suggesting that Ange Postecoglou could look to bring in another striker, that theory does seem unreasonable given that Giakoumakis already struggles for game time.

The Greek has only made seven starts this term, missing five big chances in the Scottish Premiership (as per SofaScore).

In turn, Kyogo has missed three, but considering even some of Europe’s finest strikers are spurning opportunities at will, we feel neither will have to worry about their place in the squad.
