Presenter Ryan Fitzsimon has claimed on Twitter that CF Montreal full-back, Alistair Johnston would be the ‘perfect right-back’ for Celtic.

A report stated that the Hoops were weighing up a bid for Johnston. The 24-year-old is currently taking part in the World Cup with Canada.

What’s interesting to note is that the previously mentioned report was published whilst the match between Canada and Belgium was taking place.

Fitzsimon admitted he didn’t know much about Johnston. However, after doing some research on him, he came to the conclusion he would be the right fit for Celtic.

He tweeted: “Spent the last hour or so doing some reading into Alistair Johnston, and from what I’ve seen so far, big take. If (and it’s a big if) he does become a Celtic player, feels like the perfect right back should JJ [Josip Juranovic] decide to leave. Just need to wait and see.’

TIF’s view on Fitzsimon’s comments…

We believe that it’s too early to tell with Johnston. He’s only played his football so far in the MLS, so it’s hard to say if he would fit well in the Scottish Premiership.

His performance against Belgium was a solid display. Johnston was given a full 90 minutes in Canada’s opening match.

In many ways, the signing would be very similar to the latest Celtic signing, Yuki Kobayashi. He’s a player who has no experience playing in Europe as of yet, but is on the younger side.

Perhaps, Celtic boss, Ange Postecoglou is looking to bring in some younger players into his squad. However, they’ll need to adapt to life quickly at the club, especially if they want to do well in Europe next season.

The Scottish side didn’t win a single game in the Champions League this season. Furthermore, they only scored four goals across six matches. So, Postecoglou will hope they’ll take like ducks to water.
