Journalist Alison McConnell has suggested that Celtic may look to sign an out-and-out striker this January.

It comes after the Hoops scored just once across their two friendlies during their trip to Australia this past week.

McConnell has claimed that the games versus Everton and Syndey typified the side’s struggles in front of goal which was particularly apparent in Europe.

Ange Postecoglou’s side had the joint 12th-most attempts in the Champions League group stages, more than the likes of PSG, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund.

However, just 29 were on target with only two sides scoring less than the Scottish Champions (4).

According to SofaScore, striking options Kyogo Furuhashi and Giorgos Giakoumakis missed five big chances between them and McConnell feels the issue may be addressed when the market reopens.

Speaking on PLZ Soccer she said:

(49:46) “I think there’s a real, I wouldn’t say concern but I think what you’d say there’s an argument to say that Celtic could do with an out-and-out striker.

“When you look at those chances they created and those two games were really their season in microcosm or their Champions League season microcosm where you’re creating opportunities in games but you’re really not putting them away and I think that would be a consideration going into January.”

Do Celtic need a busy January window?

Ex-Hoops marksman Frank McAvennie has previously suggested that his former employers should look to sign another centre-forward claiming that if Ange had a ‘decent striker’ the Bhoys would still be in Europe.

Kyogo and Giakoumakis have scored eleven and eight goals respectively in all competitions this season but they certainly aren’t the most prolific as their conversion rate (29%/19%) would suggest.

However, given that the latter has played just an average of 43 minutes per appearance across 21 games this term you would feel that a third option would be too many for Postecoglou to juggle.
