Former Celtic ace Peter Grant has backed Ange Postecoglou to continue at Parkhead for the foreseeable future in order to meet his ambitions.

Postecoglou is on a 12-month rolling contract at Parkhead with his deal expiring at the end of the season.

It’s an agreement that has left the Hoops in a very precarious situation particularly with the Australian being linked to the now-filled roles at Brighton and Wolves already this season.

Football Insider reported back in September that those at Lennoxtown were ready to offer the head coach a ‘huge’ revised deal in order to fend off suitors.

Grant has now speculated that the 57-year-old will still have a few boxes he will want to tick in Glasgow perhaps easing the concern of supporters.

Speaking on the GO Radio Football Show Mark Guidi discussed how Postecoglou still feels he has more to achieve with Celtic to which Grant replied:

“I can see the things he says he’s not achieved. He will want to win the treble, he will want to be a Celtic manager that wins the treble.

“That’s always a thing as a Celtic manager, to win the treble.

“That’d be fantastic for him and that is something he wants to achieve.

“Then, could he be that manager that gets us out of the section in the Champions League? That’s another thing he’ll want to achieve. Is it possible? We don’t know, but they’re the things he’s got to try and achieve.”

TIF Thoughts on Grant’s comments…

Are you worried about Postecoglou's future?

Yes!

No!

No!

Last season, Postecoglou wrestled back the Scottish Premiership title in his first campaign at the helm with an attractive brand of football.

The club also clinched the Scottish League Cup but an extra-time semi-final defeat to rivals Rangers ended hopes of a treble.

However, with a nine-point gap at the top of the table this time around, the Celts are currently on course to secure back-to-back league wins while a strong cup run in both competitions could yet follow.

The manager, meanwhile, will also feel like his side have unfinished business in Europe, and he has promised to take their opponents head-on if they qualify again next term.

Given what he has already achieved in Glasgow, we think keeping hold of Postecoglou will be vital for Celtic’s immediate future.
