Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Gonçalo Guedes has been criticised for showing a lack of appreciation to the fans.

Express & Star journalist Liam Keen, who was speaking on the E&S Wolves Podcast following Wolves’ latest Premier League clash, expressed his thoughts on the Portuguese ace.

Guedes arrived at Wolves from Valencia for a fee of £27.5m this summer, but has struggled to hit the ground running at Molineux so far this season.

The 25-year-old is yet to hit the back of the net for the West Midlands side and has provided just one assist in the Premier League according to Transfermarkt – coming in the side’s 1-1 draw with Newcastle United back in August.

But Keen was disappointed to hear that Guedes was unwilling to applaud the club’s travelling supporters following the conclusion of their draw with Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.

He said: “We’ve given Guedes a lot of stick, and unfortunately, rightly so.

“And this is just another, in the grand scheme of things, fairly small thing.

“But unfortunately, it all builds up to this narrative around him and this almost character he’s creating for himself where he’s letting himself and the club and the fans down on a weekly basis at the moment.

“I think it’s so, so poor.

“If it is the case that’s exactly what he’s done, he has to show more appreciation for the fans, who were excellent throughout the game, stood by the team throughout the game and gave the team appreciation after the game when they approached them.”

TIF Thoughts on Keen’s comments…

We believe that the least Guedes can do is offer the fans his appreciation at the end of the game, especially away from home where fans are likely to have spent a fair bit of money on tickets and travel.

Fans of the West Midlands side will be worried about the forward’s struggles in the old gold and black, and will be hoping that for the transfer outlay the club spent on him, he can start to pick up form heading into the World Cup break.

Therefore, we believe that Keen is right to criticise Guedes in this instance, with both the Portuguese forward’s form and attitude now coming to question.
