Presenter Chris Hamill has claimed that touted Wolves transfer target Enzo Fernandez ‘is the future’ after he scored a superb goal at the World Cup.

In Argentina’s second group-stage game, having lost to Saudi Arabia in their opener, the South American nation took on Mexico in a high-stakes match.

Luckily for the Argentinians, they have Lionel Messi amongst their ranks and the PSG star provided a moment of ‘trademark magic’ to open the scoring during the second half.

Then in the 87th minute, having come on as a substitute, Fernandez – who has been linked with Wolves – sealed the three points with a beautifully executed shot that curled into the top corner of the Mexico net.

In reaction to this stunning effort, Hamill took to Twitter and simply said: “Enzo Fernandez is the future.”

TIF thoughts on Enzo Fernandez and Wolves…

According to a report from The Sun, Wolves tried to sign the Argentina midfielder over the summer only for him to end up in Portugal with Benfica instead.

Regardless of that, the same article claims that the Premier League club will try again to purchase him in the near future. However, after announcing himself on the global stage alongside Messi in such spectacular fashion, it’s safe to say this deal will probably be a lot harder to complete now.

Still only 21 years of age, Fernandez has instantly made himself a regular at Benfica. Indeed, he has started every league game so far, and also has picked up two assists in five Champions League outings – only missing one game due to suspension.

Taking everything into account, it’s hard to disagree with Hamill. Fernandez may well be the future – though it’s unclear if Wolves will play any part in that.
