ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United youngster Pierre Ekwah may be loaned out this winter amid interest from overseas clubs.
Before the break for the 2022 World Cup, the Hammers used the Europa Conference League as a chance to give some academy players first-team minutes.
However, this opportunity wasn’t afforded to Ekwah and the 20-year-old midfielder from France is still to make his senior debut for West Ham.
With this possibly in mind, it seems as though the club have decided his development would be best-served with a loan abroad in the second half of the season.
Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said: “Pierre Ekwah – he is going to be allowed to go on loan to a side in January – probably a foreign side; there’s a number of foreign clubs that are interested in signing him.
“But he’s going to be allowed to go on loan as well, because he hasn’t really featured in Europe this season. They want to give him a bit of match experience.”
TIF Thoughts on Pierre Ekwah and West Ham…
As mentioned before, Ekwah is yet to play a competitive game for the Hammers at senior level and has mainly played in the Premier League 2.
He has also captained the club in a few Papa John’s Trophy games and did make the bench in two Europa Conference League qualifying matches, but didn’t get on the pitch (via Transfermarkt).
Whilst he is fairly inexperienced, he has been capped five times for the France U20 side, so he clearly is a talented youngster. With that in mind, it’s no shock to hear some foreign clubs are keen on taking him on loan.
If that does happen, it’ll be interesting to see how he gets on.
