ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United are still unsure as to whether or not they will play Nayef Aguerd in the Premier League before the World Cup – but he should again feature in midweek.

Sadly for the centre-back, the first stage of his career as an Iron has been hugely hampered by a bad ankle injury picked up in a pre-season friendly match shortly after his summer transfer.

However, in better news for the player and West Ham, Aguerd finally made his first competitive outing for the club last week when he started in the Europa Conference League win over Silkeborg IF.

And in another positive update, having previously suggested the Moroccan would only be used in Europe, it seems he may yet be involved in domestic action before the World Cup.

When talking on The West Ham Way podcast, Ex said: “Aguerd, I think will play on Thursday. But they’re saying that they’re not sure whether he’ll feature in any of the Premier League games – possibly for Leicester because they want to build up his Premier League fitness.

“I think we won’t see him start in the league before the World Cup.”

TIF Thoughts on Nayef Aguerd and West Ham…

Presumably, David Moyes must feel as though league games have an extra edge of intensity to them that just isn’t present at this stage in the Europa Conference League.

To be fair to him, seeing as West Ham have won five from five in the European competition so far, it’s easy to see why he may feel as though this is a better environment for Aguerd to regain his fitness and get used to his new teammates.

Even so, it is interesting to hear Ex suggest that they could be tempted to give him a runout in the league – even if it doesn’t mean starting a game before the World Cup.

Before the winter break, West Ham face Crystal Palace at home before travelling to Leicester City.

It sounds as though that game against the Foxes could be a chance for Aguerd to get some minutes domestically, though there is also a Carabao Cup tie against Bournemouth before then, so Hammers fans could yet see him in domestic action before joining up with Morocco.
