ExWHUemployee has claimed that reports of Conor Coventry being told to leave West Ham United are not at all accurate.

According to a recent article from Football Insider, the 22-year-old midfielder is free to find a new club ahead of the January window with less than a year left on his contract.

The report claims that the Hammers would prefer to at least pick up some kind of transfer fee for the player this winter, as opposed to letting him go for nothing in the summer.

However, it seems as though the authenticity of this story is being disputed. At least, that isn’t the information West Ham insider Ex has on Coventry and his current situation.

Indeed, the presenter wrote on The West Ham Way Patreon page to claim that the report is ‘flawed’ as the Irons could extend his contract if they want – and so there is no rush to sell him.

In full, he said: “Despite breaking news that Conor Coventry has been told he can leave the club in reports today, we can state that this isn’t true.

“The player has been given no indication on where his future lies at this point and is still hoping to get more first-team games at West Ham.

“The report is also flawed because it says the club want to cash in on the player before his contract expires this summer, whereas we can confirm the club have another one-year option on Coventry, so could renew it if they wished and this would stop the need to cash in now.

“Whilst Coventry is obviously playing for his future and could still leave, it hasn’t been decided at this point, and by all accounts, Moyes has been impressed with his attitude this season. He is expected to feature in West Ham’s friendly match (testimonial game) next Tuesday against Cambridge United.”
