Insider ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United may have to act fast if they want to sign transfer target Jakub Kiwior.
According to reports in Italian media (via MilanNews), the Spezia centre-back is wanted by a number of Serie A clubs ahead of a possible January move.
Kiwior is still only 22 years of age but has played the full 90 minutes for Poland in both of their World Cup games so far, keeping a clean sheet on each occasion – so it’s no shock to learn of such interest.
Adding to that list of Italian clubs keen on a deal, Ex has now claimed that West Ham could be keen on bringing the defender to the Premier League. However, they had hoped to make a move for him during the summer and may now have to speed up their plans in order to land him.
Indeed, while speaking on The West Ham Way podcast, he said: “We’ve also been looking at a centre-back, via Grant Holt – the former Norwich forward is one of our scouts – and he has been going to Italy a lot.
“And he’s looked at a guy called Jakub Kiwior, who is Polish and plays for Spezia. But he’s also been interesting Juventus, Napoli and both Milan sides.
“There’s a distant, sort of watching of him as a potential summer signing. Now, there’s talk that he’s going to go in January to one of those Italian sides.
“Our hope was to maybe look at signing him as a replacement for [Craig] Dawson in the summer, but it might mean that we have to move a little bit earlier because of interest elsewhere.”
TIF Thoughts on Jakub Kiwior and West Ham…
As Ex alludes to, the departure of Dawson has been rumoured for some time, so the club may well be planning on bringing in somebody new to take the centre-back’s spot in the team.
And in Kiwior – who Robert Lewandowski hailed as ‘extraordinary‘ – they may have identified a pretty good option. Indeed, on top of his impressive and aforementioned efforts at the World Cup in Qatar, the young defender has established himself as a key part of the Spezia lineup – starting every league game this term while playing in a number of defensive roles such as left wing-back and defensive midfield.
Clearly, the 22-year-old is a top prospect, but if clubs in Italy are keen to land him soon, West Ham may well have to bite the bullet and make their own move a little sooner than expected.
