Presenter ExWHUemployee has revealed that West Ham United have ‘held’ talks with Brazilian defender Luizao ahead of a possible winter move.

With the Premier League now set for a big break over the rest of November and most of December due to the 2022 World Cup, many clubs will be finalising plans for the January transfer market.

With that being the case, more concrete rumours will soon begin emerging in the media. One story that seems as if there might be something to it is the reported West Ham interest in Luizao of Sao Paulo.

Indeed, while writing an update on The West Ham Way Patreon page, Ex claimed that the club are trying to land the 20-year-old, and while the deal isn’t done yet, the club are hopeful of finalising it in the near future.

He wrote: “We can confirm that West Ham have held talks with Brazilian centre-back Luizao. The 20-year-old currently plays for Sao Paulo and is said to be highly rated.

“The defender has rejected a new contract at his hometown team, and West Ham, Fulham and a host of European teams have been trying to persuade the defender to join. Whilst we think talk that it is done to West Ham is premature, the club hope to conclude the deal. Rob Newman spent a period of time in Brazil looking at top talent that could be persuaded to move to east London, so expect more links to come out in [the] coming weeks.

“It isn’t expected that Luizao will be one for the first team immediately, but certainly could be developed into one in the near future if the player should join. Fellow scout Grant Holt was also in Italy this week looking at potential players. We have sent quite a few messages out about Luizao, so if and when we get more information on his chances of joining, we shall let you know.”

TIF Thoughts on Luizao and West Ham…

Still only 20 years of age, the centre-back has just started to establish himself as a regular in the Sao Paulo side, playing 14 Serie A games in the Brazilian league this season (via Transfermarkt).

In total, he has just 20 senior appearances for the club having come through their academy, so it’s no surprise that he wouldn’t necessarily be expected to immediately make an impact in the first team at West Ham should he arrive.

Even so, with Ex reporting that head of recruitment Rob Newman has been keeping tabs on Luizao, the Hammers must really feel as though the young defender could be a top player in the future.

It’ll be interesting to see how this develops, with Fulham also referenced as a team possibly interested in signing the Brazilian.
