Tottenham Hotspur may look to Mauricio Pochettino as their top managerial target if Antonio Conte leaves the club in the future.
That is according to journalist Dean Jones, who was speaking to This is Futbol about the latest news from Hotspur Way.
According to 90min back in October, Pochettino was not interested in taking the vacant Aston Villa job following the sacking of Steven Gerrard, due to the fact he was holding out for the Spurs job.
Meanwhile, Conte’s future at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium remains uncertain, with contract extension talks stalling amid interest from Juventus in taking the Italian manager back to his former club.
And Jones believes that the club may turn to Pochettino in the event of their current manager’s departure, with the Argentine able to provide more entertaining football than his Italian counterpart.
“For Poch, we’ve seen him display minimal interest in the Aston Villa job and I think that that tells us that he’s only willing to go back to a certain level of club.
“Tottenham are still at that level from pretty much when he left them but they probably are stronger now, they probably do realise what he gave them.
“I think they probably realise that he entertained in a way that Conte can’t.
“So, I would say that if Conte does leave at any point, for me Pochettino remains the top.”

We believe that Pochettino would be well suited to the head coach job at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, with the club’s former manager already likely having a relationship with key figures in the squad such as Harry Kane, Son Heung-min, and Hugo Lloris having managed them three years ago.
Under the 50-year-old manager, Spurs reached a Champions League final in 2019 before losing out on Europe’s biggest club trophy to Liverpool, and left the club with a legacy like no other manager had for multiple years.
Therefore, we think that Pochettino’s return to north London would be warmly welcomed by the Tottenham faithful, and we think it may be the safest and smartest move for Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici to make, should Conte leave the club in the coming months.
