Journalist Alasdair Gold has claimed on his YouTube channel that Tottenham Hotspur must loan out Harvey White in January to continue his development.

Tottenham and Antonio Conte are almost spoilt for choice when it comes to the centre of midfield. And with international stars littered all over the place, his squad may look good on paper, however, it does make it difficult for youngsters to break through into the first team.

This has certainly been the case for White, who is the captain of Spurs’ Under-21 side, featuring 10 times this season. Despite this, he is still yet to make his first-team debut, even though he has been named as a substitute on several occasions since the previous campaign.

Gold, therefore, believes White needs a loan out in January instead of continuing to play youth football, which won’t be doing much for his development at 21.

He said: “It’s going to be tough for him to break through. He’s had to be so patient. All of last season, he had loads of appearances on the bench without ever coming on, hasn’t had a minute under Conte. Conte keeps name-checking him and giving him a little praise, but doesn’t ever use him.

Will Spurs finish in the top four?

“I just think, send him out on loan in January. I think you have to.”

TIF Thoughts on Harvey White…

It appears to be the most logical move for Spurs to send White out on loan to a lower-league club given the clear lack of opportunities at Tottenham and Conte’s apparent unwillingness to even hand him cameo minutes from the bench.

White may well be looking at his fellow U21 teammates that are thriving out on loan with envy such as Dane Scarlett, who was once on the fringes of the first team himself and is now doing very well with Portsmouth.

Given that White is the captain of the Under-21s, it would suggest he’s certainly got the ability and leadership qualities to make it or at least have a great chance of doing so, however, the step up from youth football to first-team level is huge, so a half-season loan would likely do him the world of good.
