Alasdair Gold has admitted that Tottenham Hotspur trying to sign Weston McKennie can’t be ruled out given Fabio Paratici’s admiration for the midfielder.

McKennie was a standout performer for the USA on Friday evening against England, receiving an 8/10 player rating from journalist Jacob Steinberg after he ‘dominated the midfield’, which may well have caught the eye of Paratici.

The Italian supremo was the man who signed McKennie for Juventus back in 2020, so it’s no surprise he’s been linked with bringing him to the Premier League and handing Antonio Conte yet another player from the Old Lady after signing Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski in January.

Despite having an abundance of talent in midfield, Gold couldn’t rule out Paratici trying to sign McKennie in January.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, he said: “I wouldn’t rule out Tottenham continuing to look at Weston McKennie. He’s a good player, got a great engine, box-to-box, very versatile as well.

“They’ve got a lot of options in that midfield, but with his versatility, who knows if they look at him again in this upcoming window, because I do think he’d be a good player.”

TIF Thoughts on Spurs’ interest in McKennie…

Gold is right to mention Spurs’ vast depth in the centre of midfield, with the likes of Bentancur, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Oliver Skipp and Yves Bissouma already there, so perhaps signing McKennie wouldn’t naturally be at the top of their priority list in January.

However, given his dominant display at the World Cup last week, he may well have re-emerged as a top target for Conte and Paratici this winter as Spurs look to challenge on three fronts for the rest of the season.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

It has recently been reported that McKennie has a £26m price tag on his head, which could also tempt Spurs into a deal, as it wouldn’t necessarily break the bank while proving to be value for money given his age and the clear ability that has been on show in Qatar.

And given Gold has also previously claimed Paratici ‘adores’ the American, we can see him going all out to make the signing happen.
