Journalist Oli Gamp has admitted on the Spurs Chat podcast that he’d love Tottenham Hotspur to make an ambitious move to sign Achraf Hakimi in January.
The Moroccan full-back is still only 23, but has still played for a number of top teams across Europe, including Real Madrid, Borussia Dortmund, Inter and Paris Saint-Germain, so he would be a major signing for Spurs.
While some may see him as an unlikely transfer target for Tottenham, they are in the next round of the Champions League and managed by Antonio Conte, who also worked with Hakimi during their time at the San Siro, so the Italian could even help them land the Morocco international.
Gamp insisted it would be ‘ambitious’, but would love to see Spurs try to sign the ‘best right-back in the world’.
Discussing potential transfer targets for Spurs, he said: “Just before you mentioned Hakimi, I was thinking, who’s the best right-back in the world? And it would be Hakimi. So maybe that’s a little bit ambitious, but someone on his level would be great.”

There were reports earlier in the year that Conte and Spurs were indeed interested in Hakimi, though the summer may well have been their best chance to land him, because if he impresses at the World Cup with Morocco, he could end up out of Spurs’ reach.
Hakimi is almost certainly going to be starting every single game in Qatar this winter for Morocco, who face a tough group including Belgium, Canada and Croatia, so it will take a lot for the African side to qualify, but with someone so dangerous at both ends of the pitch in Hakimi, they may be a potential dark horse.
While many fans may not have seen much of Hakimi given he’s never played in England, with him set to star in the World Cup, this could be a chance for him to showcase why he’s more than ready for a move to the Premier League. But with a huge contract tying him down to PSG, we think it would take a monster offer – and some convincing from Conte – to land the young full-back.
