It is “ludicrous” to suggest that Tottenham Hotspur would consider selling Son Heung-min in the January transfer window.
That is the view of The Athletic’s Tim Spiers, who was speaking on Monday’s edition of The View From the Lane podcast.
According to sources in Germany, Son is looking for a move away from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in January, despite only recently signing a contract extension with the club until the summer of 2025.
The same report suggests that the likes of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in taking the 30-year-old on in the new year.
But Spiers can’t see Spurs allowing the 106-time South Korea international to leave the club in January, with the forward being one of the club’s “very best players”.
He said: “I can’t see that happening in January at all.
“I find that a pretty ludicrous sort of notion that Spurs would sell one of their very best players in January when they’ve got so many squad issues at the moment.
“I mean, he’s not been himself lately. It’s not like he’s missing chances necessarily, but it’s more that he’s not getting in the positions and he’s lacking that sort of zip and that vigour to get in those positions.
“I don’t know if it’s a confidence issue or not, really, but he definitely misses Kulusevski more than anyone, for me.”

We can’t foresee a situation where it would represent sensible business for Tottenham to allow Son to leave the north London club this January, with the former Bayer Leverkusen man still having two and a half years remaining on his current contract.
The Chuncheon-born forward has been an excellent servant to the north London club since his signing for £22m in 2015, having scored 136 goals and provided 76 assists in 343 appearances for the club, according to Transfermarkt.
Therefore, we cannot see a reason why Daniel Levy would be able to justify cashing in on Son at this moment in time, and believe that it would be in the club’s best interests to keep him at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
