Tottenham Hotspur may feel aggrieved regarding one of the goals they conceded at the weekend as Rodrigo Bentancur was seemingly fouled in the build-up.
Footage from Match of the Day highlighted a possible foul on the Spurs midfielder before the ball was played into Rodrigo’s path as he put the visitors ahead once again.
It was another turbulent 90 minutes of football for Antonio Conte’s men, who saw Leeds United take the lead three times on Saturday before a late comeback snatched the points.
But it seems the third goal for the West Yorkshire side could have been avoided, with Bentancur seemingly barged into by Tyler Adams after poking the ball beyond the American midfielder.
And the footage was there to be seen, as the Uruguayan midfielder was left in a heap on the floor clutching his leg.
TIF Thoughts on the footage…
We find it difficult to see how this would not be viewed as a foul on the Spurs midfielder, with Adams arriving late to the challenge and not playing the ball in any way.
Should this have been a foul on Bentancur?
It has to be said, we think Hugo Lloris could have done better with all three of the goals, but on this occasion, the referee probably should have spotted this foul in the lead-up to Rodrigo receiving the ball on the edge of the Spurs box.
In addition, Adams was already on a yellow card after a foul on Dejan Kulusevski, so it could have left the score level at 2-2 and the visitors down to 10 men for the final 15 minutes of the game.
Thankfully for Spurs, this call was not pivotal as Bentancur took matters into his own hands by securing victory through his late brace, while Adams was eventually given his marching orders in the end.
