Former Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Paul Robinson has urged the club to cut their losses and sell Tanguy Ndombele in the near future.
At the start of the season, the midfielder was sent on loan to Italy to link up with Napoli for the season. Seeing as he was loaned out to Lyon last term, it’s fair to suggest Antonio Conte doesn’t have much desire to make him part of his plans.
Taking that into account, it’s fair to say things haven’t worked out for Ndombele at Tottenham, and it’s hard to see the 25-year-old dramatically turning things around with the Premier League club.
That certainly seems to be the view of Robinson, who suggested that his attitude could be an issue, before claiming that Spurs should look to sell him if possible.
Indeed, he told Football Insider: “It is a case of cutting your losses.
“You do not want him in and around the dressing room, especially if he is not going to be playing regularly. The manager quite clearly doesn’t fancy him.
“Sadly, Ndombele has never reached the level we expected. He has only had fits and starts. His attitude hasn’t been right.
“It is one of those where you cut your losses and forget about it. They were never going to get anywhere near what they paid for him. If you get half of that, you take it. That is what is best for the club in the long term.”
TIF Thoughts on Tanguy Ndombele and Tottenham Hotspur…
Back in the summer of 2019, Ndombele arrived in north London for a club-record £63m. At such a high price, it’s unlikely Spurs will get anywhere close to their money back if they sold him now.
The Frenchman managed to score 10 goals and provide 9 assists in 91 outings but failed to convince. At Napoli, however, he has at least made himself a regular in the side.
Indeed, Ndombele has played in all but one Serie A game this season, helping his loan club to the top of the league table before the break for the World Cup.
With that in mind, perhaps a deal could be struck up between the two teams to turn his temporary move into a permanent one.
