Tottenham Hotspur: Darren Bent tips Jordan Pickford as transfer replacement for Hugo Lloris

TalkSport host Darren Bent has mooted Jordan Pickford as a future replacement for ageing goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at Tottenham Hotspur.

Both men will have the chance to impress over the coming weeks as they represent England and France at the 2022 World Cup – with each player likely to be the number one option for their country.

However, when Premier League football does return, Spurs may look at the January transfer market as an opportunity to sign someone to take over from Lloris in the long term as the Frenchman is now 35 years of age.

While talking about that possibility on the TalkSport YouTube channel, Bent touted Everton goalkeeper Pickford as an ideal candidate for the job at Tottenham.

He said (0:48): Lloris, for me, he’s obviously getting on now. He’s over the age of 30, he has started to take one of two mistakes.

“So there’s no reason why Jordan Pickford – he’s there, he’s ready – why would you not take him at Spurs?”

TIF thoughts on Jordan Pickford and Spurs…

Despite his age, Lloris has very much remained the first-choice pick for Antonio Conte this season, playing and starting in every Premier League game and Champions League game this term.

Pickford is just as important at Everton, only a thigh injury has kept him from playing every league game for the Toffees this term. At 28 years of age, though, he is seven years younger than his French counterpart and so could well replace the Spurs captain in the long run.

With 45 caps for England, and more surely to come soon, the goalkeeper certainly has all the experience and credentials to come in and do a quality job for Spurs.

Really, it’s just a question of how much longer will Spurs want to hold onto Lloris for – though his contract will still run until the summer of 2024.
