Pundit Noel Whelan has suggested that Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte might not be that keen on a transfer for Youssoufa Moukoko.

The talented teenage striker currently plays in Germany with Borussia Dortmund but his long-term future remains potentially up for grabs amid some contract doubt.

Indeed, with just over six months left on his current contract, Moukoko has remained fairly vague when pressed about committing to the Bundesliga club.

As a result, a number of top Premier League teams have been linked with a possible move for the 18-year-old striker. However, while talking about the possibility of Tottenham making a move for Moukoko, Whelan seemed doubtful.

He told Football Insider: “The one thing we’ve seen from Conte with his signings is that he wants it now. The players he has bought have needed to go straight into the first team.

“They don’t have the luxury that other teams have where they can give game time to younger players. They need a ready-made player, someone who can hit the ground running. Someone with experience, at a good age and with maturity – someone who knows the game and can adapt to how they play.

“They need someone who is definitely ready for the Premier League.”

TIF thoughts on Youssoufa Moukoko and Spurs…

Seeing as Moukoko has only just turned 18, it’s understandable that questions would be asked about just how ready he is to play in the Premier League. Still, his age has not stopped him from impressing in Germany this season.

Indeed, the teenager has scored six goals and provided four assists in 14 Bundesliga games so far. Such form has earned him a call-up to Hansi Flick’s side for the World Cup.

Despite all that talent, Conte may well prefer a more ‘ready-made’ option. After all, he has shown little willingness to try and develop 22-year-old Djed Spence after his summer move to Spurs.

With that in mind, it’s easy to see why the Italian manager might be hoping for other options in the transfer market.
