Journalist Alasdair Gold has slammed Tottenham Hotspur defender Emerson Royal after his poor display in the club’s recent defeat.

On the Sunday afternoon time slot, Spurs hosted Liverpool as they looked to pick up all three points in what turned out to be a rather difficult Premier League fixture.

Indeed, two goals from Mo Salah were enough to see the Reds come away with a 2-1 win despite Harry Kane pulling one back to make for a nervy end to the match.

Unsurprisingly, after the result, some of the Tottenham men came in for criticism and in the player ratings for football.london, Emerson was handed a lowly 5/10 for his efforts.

Gold also said: “Put Kane away with a good ball for the opportunity that hit the right-hand post in the first half. Same old issues though as he offered nothing apart from that going forward. 5

TIF thoughts on Emerson Royal and Tottenham…

It really wasn’t a good day at the office for the Tottenham wingback and his display was perhaps best summed up by a Tweet from journalist Ian Doyle. He wrote: “62,008 here today. Most of them appear to be not very happy with Emerson Royal.”

According to SofaScore, he finished the match with the lowest rating in his side (6.3), while he also lost the ball 15 times, won two out of seven duels, made one foul, had just 74 per cent passing accuracy, and was dibbled past once.
To make things worse, because of the loss, Spurs are now down to fourth in the league and eight points off the top, with Newcastle United moving up into third.
