Journalist Alasdair Gold has been left excited as Tottenham Hotspur now have more money to spend this winter after winning their Champions League group.
During the week, Spurs qualified for the next round of the European competition in the most dramatic fashion. Indeed, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg struck a 95th-minute winner to see his side beat Marseille 2-1 in France and go through as group winners.
Over the course of the game, it looked as though Tottenham could end up failing to qualify from Group D altogether, while a draw would have only seen them come in at second.
Getting the three points meant they move into the next round in a potentially more favourable position and will be greatly benefited financially as a direct consequence.
While speaking on the Gold & Guest Talk Tottenham podcast, the host explained as much, while also noting that Hojbjerg’s strike left manager Antonio Conte going wild in the stands.
He said: “It’s huge, to be honest. I think it changes the dynamic of what they could do in January.
“I mean, you saw, like you say, it was night and day, the reactions from Conte to both goals. Lenglet’s, it was just like, okay.
“But when that second one went in, he was going mad – and I think a lot of that has to do with the fact that it strengthens his position as well.”

Conte has made it no secret that he is hoping for plenty of reinforcements in the winter transfer window. And according to a report from Football Insider, ‘public and private pleas’ from the Italian may result in some January moves.
Atalanta’s Ruslan Malinovskyi is one name that has been linked with a possible switch in the near future, and many others will surely be touted over the coming weeks.
According to The Mirror, Spurs have already made £47.2m from their Champions League exploits this season, and that would certainly go a long way towards adding some extra quality into the mix for the club in the second half of the season.
It’s little wonder Conte and Gold both seem excited for what could be on the horizon.

There are ALWAYS contrasting views when it comes to Spurs and transfer windows, and whilst this one sounds great, I just finished reading what Antonio said in a press conference, and that is we are unlikely to spend in the January Window.
