Journalist Sean Walsh has slammed Tottenham Hotspur defender Eric Dier for an ‘error-stricken display’ this weekend.

Spurs were able to grab all three points with a 4-3 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, but it was far from a perfect display from Antonio Conte’s men.

What is especially worrying is we’re just around the corner from the World Cup in Qatar. Dier has been called up to the England squad by Gareth Southgate as one of his defensive options – but this recent display will have fans and pundits alike very worried.

Here’s what Walsh had to say on 90min as he handed the centre-back a 3/10 rating: “Another haphazard and error-stricken display from a defender who could well be starting for England at the World Cup. Yikes.”

TIF Thoughts on Walsh’s comments…

We agree that it’s extremely worrying that Dier is performing so poorly this close to the World Cup.

Last week, the England international had another nightmare against Liverpool, with pundit Darren Ambrose wanting to know ‘what was going through his head’.

Dier attempted a headed backpass, but Mohamed Salah was able to get onto his shoddy clearance ahead of keeper Hugo Lloris to grab his second of the game as the scoreline ended 2-1 to the Reds.

Hopefully, Dier can put this all behind him. He needs to remain focused on the World Cup, as if his mind is in other places, it could be costly for England.

It certainly gives Southgate something to think about ahead of their first group stage match against Iran – a game the Three Lions should be winning.
