Tottenham Hotspur have Croatian centre-back Josko Gvardiol on their radar ahead of the upcoming transfer window.

Journalist Ryan Taylor has been speaking on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel to discuss transfers, and the RB Leipzig man was a real topic of discussion.

It had been suggested over the summer that Spurs had identified Gvardiol and Alessandro Bastoni as their two main targets at centre-back.

However, it is apparent the north London side are not the only club to be showing an interest in the Croatian, with Chelsea also keeping a keen eye on his situation in Germany.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

And ahead of the January window, Taylor thinks Fabio Paratici still has Gvardiol on his radar, with Spurs believed to be looking to continue improving their backline.

He said: “I still think the top-class left-sided centre-back would certainly be one Spurs would be open to doing. I think Gvardiol is a player that is a long-term target.

“But I think the problem Spurs have is with every performance at the moment at the World Cup, his price tag is just going up and up and up.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

Gvardiol is currently in Qatar representing Croatia at the World Cup, where his stock is surely only rising with 180 minutes of football under his belt so far.

The 20-year-old has become a huge part of Leipzig’s defence with 13 appearances in the Bundesliga and four in the Champions League this season.

However, what is perhaps even more impressive is his discipline in the Leipzig side, with no cautions to his name in 1,223 minutes of football across all competitions this term (via Transermarkt).

And for a player of such a young age, this is surely a sign of his quality despite only ranking in the 47th percentile for tackles made among other players in his position over the past year (via FBref).
