Tottenham Hotspur star man Harry Kane has admitted that people at the club have suggested they were considering selling him earlier in his career.

The Spurs striker had been speaking to Sky Sports ahead of the World Cup and looked back at his resistance in his early days when he was struggling for form.

It has been a sensational start to the 2022/23 campaign for the England captain, who only trails Erling Haaland in the race for the Premier League Golden Boot.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

Kane scored 17 goals last season in the Premier League and is now just five goals away from equalling that tally after just 15 games of the current campaign (via Transfermarkt).

However, the striker has admitted it could have panned out differently for him, with the club having looked at the possibility of selling him during his struggles across his various loan moves.

He said: “I was maybe a little naive. Even when I went out on loan, when I talk to some people now, it was like, ‘oh, yeah, we were close to selling you’, or [the plan] was to go on loan to then get bought by one of those clubs.

“But in my head, when I was going on loan, it was always to come back and play for Tottenham.”

TIF Thoughts on Kane’s comments…

Spurs will certainly be glad they did not end up selling Kane, as that would certainly have been the club’s worst-ever transfer move if it had happened.

Kane is now set to leapfrog Jimmy Greaves’ goalscoring record and become the Lilywhites’ highest-ever goalscorer, with just five goals separating him from the Spurs legend’s tally of 266 goals.

Given his fine form this season, we would expect Kane to wrap up this record fairly quickly following the international break, but that may then leave a focus on his Spurs future.

With his current Spurs deal set to expire in 2024, attention could turn to whether the 29-year-old will put pen to paper on a new deal amid reported interest from Bayern Munich.
