Journalist Oli Gamp has admitted on the Spurs Chat podcast that he doesn’t know what Emerson Royal offers to this Tottenham Hotspur side.

Last night’s 2-1 win was only the second time in the Champions League this season that Emerson hadn’t started, and excluding his three-game suspension in the league, it was only the third game he was left out of the starting XI across all competitions.

This is despite having a clear lack of cutting-edge and end product when he enters the final third, which is highlighted by his lowly 30 attempted crosses in the league – some 27 behind Ivan Perisic, who has played 123 fewer minutes than the Brazilian (FBref).

Gamp has now slammed the wing-back for his performances following his latest showing in the Champions League against Marseille.

He said: “I think if you speak to any Spurs fan, they would say they hate Emerson and they want him out.

“I look at him and I don’t really see what he offers, because he’s not great going forward and he’s not great in defence, so I don’t know… Somehow he starts every week.”

Is Emerson good enough for Spurs?

Yes!

No!

TIF Thoughts on Emerson…

The Brazilian certainly put in a performance to remember not too long ago in the north London derby by picking up a needless red card for a poor challenge on Gabriel Martinelli when the winger was going nowhere.

That, accompanied by his severe lack of willingness or ability to deliver a good cross, as highlighted by the stats above, it’s no surprise that he may not be in Spurs fans’ good books, as Gamp claimed.

How well do you know where these Spurs signings came from? Take our quiz to find out! Firstly, where did Dimitar Berbatov arrive from?

However, the fact that Antonio Conte keeps picking him in pretty much every game would suggest that alternative options such as Matt Doherty and Djed Spence are simply not good enough for Spurs – and that should send serious alarm bells ringing within the club and fanbase.

So right, Emerson produces nothing, goin up, or in defence. This IS A TEAM GAME, the team has to move as a FLUID UNIT. Emerson is a weak link.
And the attackers esp Kane, Son, Kulusevski, Bentacur, n Hodgeberg are not getting the right wing support and crosses.
