Tottenham Hotspur could now be willing to allow Spanish winger Bryan Gil to leave in the upcoming January window.

Journalist Ryan Taylor has hinted at this when speaking about the Lilywhites’ winter transfer plans on Chris Cowlin’s YouTube channel.

It was a summer of speculation surrounding the 21-year-old winger’s future, with it reported that Valencia came close to taking Gil on loan for the 2022/23 campaign.

However, the youngster ended up staying put in north London, with Fabio Paratici unable to bring in a direct replacement for the Spaniard.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

With the winter market now on the horizon, Taylor believes there is a big chance that this time around, Gil could be set to leave again during the month of January.

He said: “I think that’s very highly likely [Gil leaves]. Obviously, Gil came close to leaving on deadline day, I think it was, back to Valencia on loan. But the deal collapsed because Tottenham couldn’t get a replacement, and Conte was quite clear.

“And the same line of thinking still applies, that if the Spurs can’t sign another winger in place of Gil this January, then he won’t leave, even though he’s not in the team. Spurs are going to go for a winger in January.”

TIF Thoughts on Taylor’s comments…

We do understand why Gil was not allowed to leave in the summer, and that has perhaps proved to be a smart decision given the injury issues picked up by Richarlison, Dejan Kulusevski and Son Heung-min.

Does Gil have a future at Spurs?

However, it is still apparent that regular game time at Spurs is something he is not going to get any time soon, which would suggest a loan move away in January is perhaps his best option.

But we think major discussions need to be had over the long-term plans for Gil, as there do not seem to be any steps in place for him to make something of himself at Spurs.

And if this is the case, you wonder why Spurs are potentially looking to loan him out when they could bring money in for him amid the clear interest coming from Spain.
