Alasdair Gold revealed on his YouTube channel that Son Heung-min had fractured some bones in his face after Tottenham Hotspur’s Champions League game.

It is common knowledge that Son is set to miss a prolonged period of time due to the facial injury he sustained in the Champions League on Tuesday evening and now his World Cup chances could well be in doubt.

However, good news has emerged from Gold and that is to do with Son being able to play with a face mask on during games to protect his eye and the socket surrounding it, which will be big news for the South Korean international and his national side who rely on their captain very heavily.

Gold spoke about the possibility of Son playing with a mask on amidst this fresh injury blow.

“I’ve literally just been told that he should be allowed to play with a mask on, but it all depends on his recovery and the recovery period and how that works for him.

Will Son play again this year?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

“So that’s a little bit of good news, I am able to add in that he should be allowed to play with a mask, so fingers crossed that might not be too serious in that respect in terms of length of time, but I guess it does depend on his recovery period.”

TIF Thoughts on Son’s injury blow…

With Son now 30 it appears very unlikely that he would still be at the level of performance he is right now or at least has been over the last 12 months by the time the next World Cup rolls around, so he will surely do everything he can to lead his country out in Qatar later this year.

It’s also good news for Spurs because if Son can go to the World Cup, he’ll be able to stay fresh and firing with South Korea, in a group they are very unlikely to qualify from with the likes of Uruguay, Portugal and Ghana, so he would also return pretty early and have time to recover back in North London.

However, this all depends on the surgery and Son’s recovery as there is no guarantee that the South Korean will react well to the eye surgery and be able to play so soon after it, so it’s still very much a waiting game for all involved.
