TalkSport’s Simon Jordan showed no sympathy for Antonio Conte following the Tottenham Hotspur manager’s comments about Harry Kane’s fitness.

After Wednesday night’s defeat in the Carabao Cup, the Spurs boss admitted that England captain Kane felt “very, very tired” and withdrew from a training session earlier this week.

Kane was substituted just before the hour against Nottingham Forest with the game seemingly taken away from Spurs just moments prior as they fell 2-0 behind.

The striker will jet off with the Three Lions to Qatar later this month as the winter World Cup takes centre stage, but Jordan has been left frustrated by the amount of talk around fatigued personnel.

Speaking on TalkSport, he said: “You can’t win, can you? Because we constantly have to listen to how tired the players are when there is a summer tournament; now we have a beginning of the season tournament, and they’re tired too.

“You look at it and say, ‘ok, so now we’re listening to yet again, that players are tired’.

“I do find it preposterous. I talk to these pros and I talk to people like Graeme Souness, and people say Graeme comes from a different era, then you talk to Danny Murphy, and he says the same thing.

“And it seems to me that there’s a constant narrative whenever someone doesn’t want to do something, or something isn’t quite the outcome they wanted, then everybody’s tired.

“You don’t hear about people being tired when things are going precisely their way.”

TIF Thoughts on Kane and Tottenham…

Would you rest Harry Kane at some stage this weekend?

Yes

Yes

No

No

The England captain has played all but 43 minutes of Spurs’ 21 fixtures this season, playing the full game in every Premier League match bar one.

It’s perhaps clear to see why he may be struggling for fitness, but Jordan’s comments come after The Athletic researched that the number of projected injuries for the impending tournament is very similar to that of the past five summers.

From an England point of view, many will be hoping that Kane is fit and firing like he has been this term, having already hit 11 league goals.

And promisingly, footage does seem to have shown the talismanic centre-forward training with the main group on Thursday, which is encouraging.

Maybe if Conte had not got him and the rest of the squad running 32 lengths of a pitch in preseason and getting them to run 2 km in pre match warm ups they would have a lot more energy to give in games
