Former striker Noel Whelan feels that Tottenham Hotspur could find their Hugo Lloris replacement in the form of Jordan Pickford.
It has previously been reported by TEAMtalk that Tottenham are seeking a successor for long-time goalkeeper Lloris and that Pickford is among the potential candidates.
They may face competition though with the 28-year-old also on Chelsea’s ‘radar’ according to journalist Simon Phillips.
The Sun claim that the Blues will be looking at the Everton shot-stopper during the World Cup.
However, Whelan has encouraged Spurs to beat their rivals insisting that a transfer would work well for all parties involved.
He told Football Insider: “When you’re losing a player of Lloris’ experience and quality, you’ve got to look for that international-grade replacement.
“I can’t see Jordan Pickford staying at Everton. He’s been loyal to them.
“They stayed in the Premier League by the skin of their teeth last season, it’s going to be another battle this season.
“I think these kinds of top-quality players deserve to be at a top club.
“Pickford deserves to be fighting for honours. Spurs haven’t quite done that just yet, but it’d be a massive step in the right direction.
“Top players should be playing in the Champions League – and Everton aren’t going to do that.
“They need the money, as well, to make signings of their own. There is 100% a deal to be done here.”
TIF Thoughts on Pickford and Spurs…
Would you want Jordan Pickford as replacement for Hugo Lloris at Spurs?
Journalist Greg O’Keeffe has hinted that England’s no.1 could be thinking about life after Everton with the club embroiled in a tussle at the wrong end of the table again this season.
Alongside Richarlison he earned the joint-most man of the match awards (3) according to WhoScored last season playing a pivotal role in keeping the Toffees afloat and with 46international caps and counting he could well be the man to fill the void between the sticks for Spurs for the foreseeable future.
