Finance guru Doctor Dan Plumley has backed Newcastle United to name ‘Saudia’ as their new shirt sponsor.
Eddie Howe and his side are preparing for a trip to the home of their new owners in Saudi Arabia for a warm-weather training camp.
Noon.com, part-owned by Magpies owners PIF, already sponsors the sleeves of the Toon’s jerseys and Plumley believes that a permanent front-of-shirt sponsor deal with Saudia could be in the offing.
He told Football Insider: “It seems like they are testing the waters for further deals in the region.
“You can see this with the new deal to sponsor the tour. There are a lot of big airlines that have got shirt deals with the biggest European clubs.
“It’s highly likely, I would suggest, that this deal will come back around in a bigger and bolder format further down the line.
“Again, it’s about starting small but then making deals like this part of a much bigger play in the wider scheme of things.
“It’s likely we see this type of sponsor as front-of-shirt sponsors in the future given the links aviation firms have to other big clubs.“

The Chronicle reported back in October that the Tyneside club are hoping to end their agreement with current shirt sponsors Fun88 a year early at the end of the season.
It is only worth £7m per annum to the club and PIF were said shocked by the budget deals that the previous regime had cut.
Newcastle spent over £120m in the summer but journalist George Caulkin said this week on the Pod on the Tyne that the Toon are “close to their FFP limitations” and bolstering their off-field partnerships weren’t certainly go a long way in enhancing what they can do on it and this could be a positive sign for the north-east outfit moving forward.
