Pundit Tam McManus believes Bruno Guimaraes could have already signed a new deal at Newcastle United – with an announcement to come after the World Cup.

McManus made the big claim when speaking to Football Insider about the Brazilian’s contract situation and his impact since joining the Magpies.

The 24-year-old joined the club in January from Lyon. Since then, he’s been exceptional for Eddie Howe’s side, netting five goals last season, while he has three to his name already this term.

Guimaraes was selected for Brazil’s World Cup squad, so plenty of the Toon Army will surely be excited to see how he gets on in Qatar.

McManus believes that following the tournament, Newcastle will confirm a new deal for the midfielder.

He stated: “I wouldn’t be surprised if it was already signed.

“It’s just a bit close to the World Cup and maybe they want to hold off putting too much pressure on him. I think it will be announced when he is back in Newcastle and he has the rest of the season ahead of him.

“I can’t imagine Newcastle are holding back and not offering it to him. He is so, so good and they need to tie him down for as long as possible.

“There can’t be a hesitation there. So I would guess it is just a matter of time until everything gets announced. Newcastle will probably want to make a big deal out of it and they can’t do that while he is away in Brazil.”

TIF Thoughts on McManus’ comments…

We believe that it would be great news for Newcastle if they signed Guimaraes to a new deal, as he’s been a key factor of their success in 2022.

The Magpies currently sit third in the Premier League and will do until Boxing Day at least.

At St James’ Park, Guimaraes currently ranks third in terms of average match rating on Sofascore, demonstrating how influential he is.

With only one loss this season, Newcastle could well earn themselves a Champions League slot if they keep up their form. This would give the midfielder even more of an incentive to stay in the long term. A player of his quality deserves to be playing at the highest possible level, so fans will surely be hoping McManus’ hunch is correct.
