Australia forward Garang Kuol has sent Newcastle United supporters a strange message by pointing to his shoes ahead of his upcoming January transfer.

Earlier on in the year, the Magpies agreed to sign the teenager after finalising a transfer with A-League club Central Coast Mariners. And so, the forward is set to join the Premier League outfit at the very start of 2023.

While many Newcastle fans may not know too much about Kuol, they got the chance to watch him at the World Cup this week as he came off the bench for the Socceroos in their 4-1 defeat against France.

After the game, the 18-year-old spoke to journalist David Ornstein and was quoted as saying: “I’ve been reading a lot of messages, a lot of support, people saying “Welcome to the Toon” and stuff. I’ll just send them a photo of these shoes!”

Ornstein then shared an impact of Kuol standing in the mixed zone where he was getting interviewed and the Australian obviously asked him to take a picture of his shoes.

It’s certainly an odd way to introduce himself to his new set of fans, but the teenager was presumably trying to point out the fact that his trainers were black and white – which are, of course, the Newcastle kit colours.

Before the World Cup, Kuol caught the eye as he scored twice for Central Coast Mariners in one game, which included one ‘ridiculous’ strike. And now he has played in Qatar he will be growing on the radar of his new set of supporters.

Players do often like to let their feet do the talking, though this message sent via his transfers was certainly an unusual way to introduce himself to the club’s loyal fanbase.
