Brian Davis, the presenter known as True Geordie, has praised Newcastle United winger Miguel Almiron after he scored again in the club’s most recent game.

The Magpies travelled away from home in the Premier League on Sunday afternoon as they met Southampton looking to maintain their push for European football.

Eddie Howe’s men played well in the first half too and in-form winger Almiron opened the scoring as he finished off a fine solo effort in a cool manner, giving Newcastle a 1-0 lead at the break.

Goals in the second half from Chris Wood and Joe Willock then put the game out of reach for the Saints. However, the telling moment in game was the effort that broke the deadlock and Davis was full of praise for the winger who provided it.

Indeed, he took to Twitter to say: “In all my time watching football I’ve never seen a player turn it around more than Miggy. This is unbelievable. Hard work pays off and the lad deserves every success.”

TIF thoughts on and Newcastle United…

That goal means Almiron now has six league goals in his last six league games. This is even more remarkable seeing as before this season he had never scored more than four in a single campaign for Newcastle.

It certainly is a great turnaround in goalscoring ability for the 28-year-old who has truly found his stride under Howe in recent months and is arguably the most in-form player in England right now.

Beyond Almiron’s personal exploits, that impressive win on the road means Newcastle are up in the Champions League places with 27 points after 14 games.
