Sky Sports’ Andy Hinchcliffe has slammed Jorginho for his foul on Bruno Guimaraes during Newcastle United’s most recent game.
In their latest Premier League fixture, the Magpies looked to head into the break for the 2022 World Cup in third place with a victory.
However, the first half passed by without a great deal of action, with both teams looking to get to grips with one another, and Newcastle United went into the break level at 0-0.
But in the 30th minute of the game, Guimaraes was caught late by Jorginho in the middle of the park and the Italy international was consequently booked. Hinchcliffe evidently wasn’t impressed and told Sky Sports: “That’s not accidental. Jorginho knows exactly what he’s doing.
“He’s looked to take him out.”
Will Bruno Guimaraes sign a new contract at Newcastle this season?
TIF Thoughts on Bruno Guimaraes and Newcastle United…
While it was a late step on the toe – as shown in this image shared online – it certainly wasn’t anything worse than a yellow card and the referee got the decision correct.
However, it’s the sort of tackle that would have had many Newcastle fans pretty upset, just as Hinchcliffe was. The cynical nature of it could suggest Jorginho had little consideration for the midfielder’s wellbeing and could have done him more serious damage on another day.
Of course, Brazil supporters would also have been very nervous with the World Cup fast approaching. Indeed, ESPN Brazil even shared the incident online stating that the tackle left Guimaraes in ‘pain on the ground’. Despite the fear, the midfielder was able to continue and so should be fine for Qatar later this month.
