Chris Waugh has revealed that Callum Wilson was frustrated at the weekend after he failed to score his first Newcastle United hat-trick.
Newcastle put on yet another dominant home display in the Premier League, this time convincingly winning 4-0, making it 10 goals scored and zero conceded from open play in their last three games at St James’ Park.
The club’s form has seen them move into the top four and become potential Champions League contenders, but despite the fine run of results, Wilson is seemingly still very frustrated from a personal point of view.
Waugh revealed on Pod on the Tyne that his lack of hat-tricks as a Newcastle player is seriously annoying him.
The journalist said: “He was very annoyed at himself that he didn’t get a hat-trick. He still hasn’t got a hat trick for Newcastle, which I know is something that really does frustrate him.

“But he ran the line so well, he gave Tyrone Mings a torrid time – which I didn’t really realise until Saturday, but the suggestion is that he and Tyrone Mings from their time at Bournemouth are not exactly best friends, which was new information to me, I didn’t necessarily realise that. They really were going hammer and tongs at one another and Wilson came out very much on top, dragged him inside and out.”

The Newcastle number nine has been in scintillating form this term, managing to rack up eight goal involvements in nine Premier League appearances, so he’s been a huge reason behind the Magpies’ early-season form.
However, it’s not just his club form that’s on his mind, with Wilson openly talking about his England aspirations in recent times, reiterating how much he wants to be on the plane to Qatar this winter with England, which is no surprise given the ‘incredible’ performances he’s been putting in for the Magpies, as described by Eddie Howe.
While Newcastle fans and Howe would naturally be delighted to see one of their own head to the World Cup, given Wilson’s poor injury record since being on Tyneside, playing more games without their medical team helping him to recover could actually be a bad thing for them in the long term, so there may even be mixed feelings if his form continues in this vein.
