Newcastle United’s Callum Wilson was ‘buzzing’ on social media after making his World Cup debut with England against Iran.

Wilson also played his part in the Three Lion’s 6-2 thrashing of Iran. The 30-year-old bagged an assist, squaring the ball to Jack Grealish, who scored England’s final goal of the game.

The draw between the USA and Wales  means that Gareth Southgate’s side top Group B, for now. Wilson came off the bench in the 76th minute for Harry Kane.

Following the win, Wilson took to social media to react to making his first World Cup appearence.

Wilson wrote on his post, ‘Buzzing to make my World Cup debut today! Great start from the team.’

TIF’s view on Wilson’s comments…

We believe that Callum Wilson has every right to be buzzing after making his World Cup debut. His performances with Newcastle United meant he definitely deserved the England call-up.

Furthermore, the ball he squared across goal for Grealish’s tap-in was incredibly selfless. Wilson could’ve easily gone for goal himself.

Adding an assist on his World Cup debut will mean that the Iran match will be one he won’t be forgetting in a hurry. With Harry Kane being the go-to man for England, it was hard to see Wilson getting many minutes.

However, he took his opportunity when it came. The assist will certainly give Gareth Southgate to think about going forward.

The USA are the Three Lions’ next opponents. They’ll have momentum on their side following the Iran result, but it’ll be a game England shouldn’t be taking lightly. The FIFA World Rankings suggest the USMNT will be tough opposition for Gareth Southgate and his side.
