Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has said it will take around €50m (£43m) for Manchester United to sign Cody Gakpo.

The Italian journalist has previously said that the Red Devils are among those interested in the PSV Eindhoven star.

Gakpo is currently lighting things up in Qatar with the Netherlands, having scored in all three of his country’s group stage games.

Ex-Dutch footballer Hans Kraay Jr. has recently said to ESPN that the 23-year-old is ‘gone’ from his current club and that he will soon be playing in the Premier League.

Now, Romano has stated what it may take to bring in the £19k-per-week ace.

Speaking on The United Stand, he said: “About the price, they [PSV] always wanted around [a] €50m package.

“So in the summer, they were prepared to accept around €40m plus add-ons. Now, I think they want €50m guaranteed for Cody Gakpo, also with some add-ons to complete the package.

“But I think we are always around €50m for Cody Gakpo, and honestly, after his World Cup and his excellent performances with PSV Eindhoven, I think he is worth that money.”

TIF Thoughts on Romano’s comments…

Do you want MUFC to sign Cody Gakpo this winter?

We would certainly be inclined to agree with Romano on this one, and £43m seems like a very favourable price for a player with such potential.

Gakpo scored 21 goals and provided 15 assists last season and has already been directly involved in 30 goals in 24 appearances this term.

Hailed as ‘electric’ by journalist Josh Bunting, we think the Dutchman would bring much more of an attacking threat down United’s left-hand side than Jadon Sancho has managed, and considering the level of interest that there will undoubtedly be around him following his exploits in Qatar, Erik ten Hag would do well to act quickly in order to secure his signature this winter.
