Manchester United’s chances of signing Declan Rice remain ‘possible’, amid recent claims that they are set to spend €120m (£105m) on a new midfielder.
That’s according to journalist Jacque Talbot, who was speaking on his YouTube channel. However, he did state such an outlay was dependent on the sales of Scott McTominay and Fred.
It appears the Red Devils are desperate for a new midfielder. They signed Casemiro from Real Madrid last summer, but the club seem keen on further freshening up their midfield.
Ideally, two midfielders would be the goal, but Talbot believes it would be difficult for Man United to do achieve that. Additionally, he stated the players they’re looking at bringing in, with Rice among the candidates.
Discussing one of his stories, Talbot said: “They’re gonna get one, possibly two, but I think they’re going to struggle with two. But it’s dependent on the sales on Scott McTominay and Fred.
“On the list is Jude Bellingham, [Bruno] Guimaraes, Declan Rice, Frenkie de Jong.
“Declan Rice would be interesting, because I know he’s turned down a contract there at West Ham. You kind of think, especially with the trajectory they’re on, that’s possible.”
TIF Thoughts on Talbot’s comments…
We believe that investing in a new midfielder should be a priority for Man United. Whilst McTominay and Fred can show glimpses of quality in midfield, the Red Devils haven’t been close to a league title while they’ve been in the team.
We agree that the one target Talbot mentions who could be a real possibility is West Ham United’s Rice. Reports recently have stated he is ‘willing’ to leave the Hammers.
However, other clubs are in for the England international, with Chelsea and Manchester City also reportedly interested in him.
Midfielders are always in high demand, but if Man United are willing to splash the cash, they should be able to improve their midfield options sooner rather than later.
